I see you've decided to stop by! I hope you enjoy reading these tidbits about Shinrei Photography, and that you find what you're looking for.
the name |
"Shinrei" is the Japanese word for "spirit" or "soul". In every photo shoot I do, I do my best to capture the spirit of the subject through my camera. When cosplayers ask someone, be it passerby or photographer, to take their picture, it's so they can capture the spirit of the moment and character they're cosplaying. So I found the word to be quite fitting for a name.

I was at Valhallacon 2014 (a convention in its first year), when I was talking with a cosplayer. She mentioned she hadn't been able to get pictures taken of her cosplay, and was disappointed because it was the first one she had completely made herself . I offered to take pictures and she said, "As long as it's not a smartphone camera, we're good".
A photo shoot ensued. I found the experience to be incredibly fun and exciting to partake in , and I thought that maybe I should look into doing cosplay photography more seriously. I got the word out, did some shoots...and learned a lot. I'm still learning, in fact. P.S. You can see pictures from the first shoot--they're the 'Marin' ones in the gallery. One is even used on this page! |

the photographer |
My name is Chandni and I'm currently a high school student who aspires to become a someone that can photograph cosplays, as well as the people behind them, to the best of my abilities. I'm definitely still an amateur right now and I don't know when I won't be one, but I'm striving to lose that label!
